Soundcraft’s new video shows the basic manufacturing steps involved in preparing the aluminium and timber required to make a composite window.
The aluminium and timber profiles used to produce the windows are 6 metres long. The first steps are to cut them to the length required. The lengths are calculated by the company’s ERP software package and shown on a cutting list issued to the machine operators in the factory.
Once the correct aluminium and timber lengths are cut they are then mitred at each end on a mitre saw. Generally, all corner joints are based on mitred lengths of aluminium or timber.
Sometimes a square joint is required for a transom, in which case the aluminium is cut once to length; but the timber is ‘counter profiled’ on the Stegherr machine, after being cut to length.
