Members of the Soundcraft team will be putting their best foot forward on Sunday May 27th, as they take part in a challenging charity walk in the capital to raise vital funds to help enrich the lives of children with disabilities and serious illness.
Going the distance to support the fundraising organisation Ordinary to Extraordinary (O2e), will be Soundcraft’s chairman Kevin Smith, managing director Rob Thomson and project administrator Katie Ellis. The trio will be joining a team of over 40 other supporters to complete the Thames Bridge Walk in London. Comprising two different routes, Kevin and Rob will be walking the gruelling 26 miles from Richmond Park to Tower Bridge and Katie will be completing the still impressive 15 mile hike along the Thames Path. Both challenges will require the team to zig zag back and forth the River Thames, crossing 16 iconic London bridges in total.
So far, nearly £5K has been raised for the event and the pot is still growing!
Established in 2006 by three rugby teammates of our chairman Kevin Smith, O2e has gone on to raise a staggering £2.2M for various children’s charities by organising and completing a number of physical challenges. Completely funded by volunteers and with no assets, offices or staff, virtually every penny raised by 02e goes directly to those in need.
In the last twelve years, O2e has grown from a small impassioned group to an organisation that has been embraced by hundreds of people across the UK who routinely push themselves out of their comfort zones to raise much needed funds for children who are less fortunate.
The latest Thames Walk challenge has been organised by Sue Smith, Kevin’s wife and ambassador for 02e since 2017. After years of fundraising for Kevin’s cycle challenges around the world, Sue is now using her charitable skills to create new exciting events to encourage new supporters to get on board and help support O2e’s important work.
Commenting on the forthcoming Thames Walk, Katie Ellis, who is taking part in her first event for O2e said: “I’m really excited and privileged to talk part in the charity walk to help support O2e and the children and families who benefit from the fundraising. It’s a great cause which is very close to my heart. I am also looking forward to being able to prove all the people wrong who said that I would never take part in something as physically challenging as this!”
