Working alongside Allied Protection, part of the Lakehouse Group, Soundcraft has played a key role in improving the fire safety standards as part of the refurbishment of an eight-storey residential block of flats in Catford, Greater London.
Soundcraft was appointed by Allied Protection for the end client Phoenix Housing to review and replace the existing fire doors at Nayland House, which was originally built in the 1960s. A key priority was to create adequate compartmentation in the communal stairways to help delay the spread of fire and smoke and maintain a safe escape route for longer.
After first removing the existing non-compliant doors and screens and responsibly disposing of them, Soundcraft then went on to install the Fitted FD30 rated oak veneered glazed doors with side screens in painted hardwood and glazed with clear fire resisting glass. For added reassurance, the team also provided the client with the relevant third-party certification , with all products manufactured and installed to achieve full compliance with the Exova BM Trada 3rd Party Certification scheme.
As the building remained occupied throughout, it was important to limit any inconvenience to the residents during the installation of the new fire doors and screens. This was achieved by adopting off-site construction techniques, with both the fire doors and screens being pre-assembled under quality-controlled conditions in Soundcraft’s factory before being delivered to site. By speeding up the installation process and reducing the amount of labour on site, the work was carried out safely and with any noise, mess and disruption kept to a minimum.
