Soundcraft expertise was once again called upon to deliver exacting standards for London Art Deco building.
Appointed as part of the Dartmouth Court restoration plan to return this substantial mansion block to its former glory, Soundcraft undertook the project to provide essential fire resisting and security doors in keeping with the property’s original architectural style.
Located heath-side on the edge of Blackheath, within the Blackheath Conservation area on one of the most historic parts of the village, the mansion block of 72 purpose-built apartments required Soundcraft’s BM Trada Q-Mark trained teams to replace the existing apartment entrance doors with the installation of new 30-minute fire resisting doors to comply with Secured by Design and PAS24 security ratings.
Remaining as close to original ironmongery style while still achieving vital fire door and security standards, Soundcraft’s Managing Director Rob Thomson said: “Soundcraft provided the Winkhaus AV2 Heritage lock, which is a modern adaption of a more traditional door locking system designed to complement replacement period doors. The cylinder is located at a similar height to a traditional round cylinder pull and the lock operates automatically as soon as the door is closed. This, together with additional ironmongery chosen with the client, ensures that our door sets complement the building’s Art Deco heritage.”
The prestigious private apartments at Dartmouth Court were constructed during the 1930’s in a streamline modern Art Deco style. When the building fell into disrepair through more recent times, Resident Directors engaged Oakbury to oversee a major restoration of the estate. Managing Director Arthur Portelli, stated: “Oakbury has restored Dartmouth Court back to its former glory whilst introducing modern technology, design and building products. This has established Dartmouth Court as one of the most desirable apartment blocks in the Blackheath and Greenwich area.”
This unique project follows the recent renewal of Art Deco style entrance doors with communal doors and screens at London’s Belvedere Court, highlighting Soundcraft’s expertise to undertake work that is sensitively approached with specialist capabilities and qualified teams for these notable London buildings.
